Happy Pride
Happy Jubilee aka Juneteenth
There are so many things to celebrate in June!
First, I wanted to share two things that can be true and intersect. As a Black woman and bi-femme, I sometimes feel invisible. Invisible in the intersection of my identity.
I think about my struggles as a youth and young adult regarding my sexuality. I became a mother in my early 20s. People always assumed I was straight or heteronormative. I will also say there are moments where I felt super confident in my sexuality and other times where I was unsure. I know that lots of folks can relate to that one. It was more so the pressure from family or even what my children thought. I made space for conversations with my loved ones.
So I am PROUD for two reasons today.
Those that choose to live out loud and love who they choose to love because it’s their choice. Along with those that went through great hardship to figure out how to live their truth as it relates to their identity. So PROUD of those beautiful African people who found JOY and created the celebration of Juneteenth passed down for generations back on June 19th, 1865. This celebration of and right to freedom and to be treated humanely. We know it’s been a long journey on both fronts, but there are many things that we can do better and work on collectively.
No matter your identity and where it may intersect, I hope you are PROUD of how far you have come. Acknowledge those who have paved the way for you to be who you are today. Honor that!

Love is always something we need a little more of rather it’s self love, love family, and love of community.
I wrote this thought in 2011:
“Most beautiful thing to share in the world is love there are so many forms of it to share that is universal and in abundance such as self love , family, love of another , love of life, love of the children, love of music, love of art, love of all human families, love of the earth, love of the galaxy, of the whole mother fucking universe! Blending all the loves together to form one heart amongst all people! Would heal our past present and future!!! Just a thought..?”
