For our community mural, our inspiration is movement through our beautiful cityscape. Let’s chat about how we get around, all the ways our neighbors, friends and families navigate the city. What does community mean to you? Taking our thoughts and feelings by adding text that affirms our identities in our community as the backdrop to our cityscape.

Join ZNT Arts in a vibrant, hands-on celebration of Juneteenth through a collaborative chalk art mural! Community members of all ages are invited to contribute symbols, words, and imagery that reflect the spirit of joy, freedom, and identity. Together, we’ll create a living artwork that honors the history of Juneteenth—also known as Jubilee Day—and the resilience and beauty of our communities.

honor of Juneteenth, youth artists will design a 2-foot by 3-foot mural composed of twelve 8x8 inch canvas squares. Drawing inspiration from Juneteenth history, African textile design, and oral storytelling, each teen will create an individual sketch that contributes to a larger collective image. The outlined mural will be displayed at a Juneteenth celebration on June 19 (see below), where community members will be invited to help bring the quilt to life by filling in each canvas square with color and meaning.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced artist, you'll experiment with wet-on-wet watercolor, color mixing, and dynamic line work to create unique, expressive compositions.

• Abstraction & Form: Balancing fluidity with structure through contour and outline drawing

• Wet-on-Wet Techniques: Letting color blend organically to create depth and movement

• Illusion of Form: Suggesting figures and objects through negative space and layering

Learn about the properties of a wide variety of beautiful semi-precious stones and crystals. Then pick your favorite and create a wearable pendant or ring; a pendulum to tap into the energetic connection between you, the earth, and the cosmos (or to hypnotize your friends!); or a decorative mini sculpture of your own design. This workshop is designed for caregivers and children to explore primary and secondary colors through watercolor, paint sticks, and tempera paint. Inspired by artists Stanley Whitney, Romero Britto, and Fritz Scholder, participants will experiment with color mixing, bold patterns, and expressive mark-making while working collaboratively on layered compositions. Through playful warm-ups, hands-on projects, and reflective storytelling, this course fosters creativity, emotional expression, and deeper connections between caregivers and young artists.
